Obama Wraps Up Turkey Trip With Mosque Visit, Student Meeting

(RFE/RL) – U.S. President Barack Obama is set to wrap up his visit to Turkey, the first he has made to a majority-Muslim country since taking office.

He can bask in the generally good reviews for the way he sidestepped the potential pitfalls of such a visit, and managed to accentuate Turkey's secular, democratic traditions as well as its proud Islamic heritage.

Before he left, Obama toured some of Istanbul's famous landmarks,. accompanied by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. They visited the famed Hagia Sofia and the nearby Blue Mosque.

Earlier in the day, Obama met religious leaders, namely representatives of Islam, the Jewish faith, and various Christian churches at his hotel.

After the tourist tour, Obama met Turkish university students, where he was open to questions. He was expected to carry forward the theme of his earlier speeches, namely that the United States wants to turn a new page in its relations with Muslims.

In his address to the Turkish parliament in Ankara on April 6, Obama said these relations should be broad-based, not limited to a shared interest in fighting terrorism.

"I also want to be clear that America's relationship with the Muslim community, the Muslim world, cannot and will not just be based on our opposition to terrorism,” Obama said. “We seek broader engagement based on mutual interest and mutual respect. We will listen carefully, we will bridge misunderstandings, and we will seek common ground."

He noted his own personal contacts with Islam: he has Muslim relatives in Kenya and he grew up partly in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country.

Pleasing Both Sides

His visit to Turkey had several delicate points, which according to press commentaries, he managed to handle well, One was to get across his message to Muslims, without actually portraying Turkey as an Islamic country.

Morocco announces end to homosexual tolerance
No Homosexuals
(ANSAmed) - MADRID, MARCH 24 - Morocco announces the end of tolerance with regard to homosexuality, is the title of the full page article in today's El Pais, referring to the initiative which the Ministry for the interior in Morocco is using to 'confront all actions which go against religious and moral values, within the framework of the law''. An article with the headline in red on the front page of magazine Al Michaal triggered the reaction by the government in Rabat; in it a gay Moroccan couple tell the story of their wedding, reciting a prayer which comes before the reading from the Koran. The formula is very common in Morocco, between heterosexual couples as well, but it does not mean that the union is legal. In a message quoted by El Pais, the Ministry for the interior registered "voices in the media which are trying to make a case for ignoble behaviour which is a provocation to national public opinion and which are against the moral values and teachings of our society". The government will carry act against these people "within the framework of current laws". Homosexuality is punishable in Morocco from six months to three years imprisonment, even though courts do not usually pass sentences for this kind of crime. Nevertheless arrests of gays are commonly made as a 'deterrent''. El Pais notes that "while several publications are indulgent towards Moroccan gays, the main body of the press is asking for a strong hand against perverts". Spain's ambassador in Rabat, Luis Planas, recently became involved in the controversy, when he was photographed with the secretary of Colegas, a Spanish association which defends the rights of gays and lesbians, and with Bargachi, the coordinator of Kifkif (from equal to equal), an association which supports gays in Morocco. Palestinian authorities disband youth orchestra that played for Holocaust survivors

Palestinian children from the Jenin refugee camp in
the West Bank play for Holocaust
survivors at a center in Holon, last Wednesday.
By Khaled Abu Toameh

Palestinian authorities disbanded a youth orchestra from a West Bank refugee camp after it played for a group of Holocaust survivors in Israel, a local official said on Sunday.

Adnan Hindi of the Jenin camp called the Holocaust a "political issue" and accused conductor Wafa Younis of unknowingly dragging the children into a political dispute.

He added that Younis has been barred from the camp and the apartment where she taught the 13-member Strings of Freedom orchestra has been boarded up.

On Saturday, The Jerusalem Post found that leaders and representatives of the Jenin refugee camp condemned the participation of Palestinian teenagers from the camp in a concert honoring Holocaust survivors in Holon last week. Read more ...

Muslim women told: For family's sake, commit suicide
Honor killers avoid prison by forcing victims to take own lives.
Turkey
Turkey's crackdown on the practice of honor killing has resulted in unintended consequences – instead of being murdered by a close male relative for bringing dishonor to their families, Muslim women are being pressured to commit suicide.

And the numbers of "honor suicides" are soaring, reported the UK's Independent.

Despite a 2005 change in the nation's penal code requiring a mandatory life sentence for honor killers, the number of women killed by male relatives is at a record level – more than 200 a year, half of all murders committed in Turkey. But it is that change in the law that has given rise to the growing phenomenon of women taking their own lives. Prior to 2005, killers were able to receive reduced sentences by claiming provocation. Islamic Law's Influence in America a Growing Concern
Shariamerica

By David Lewkowict

As America's Muslim population grows, so too does the influence of Islamic law, or Shariah, in daily life in the U.S.

"Shariah Law is the totality of the Muslim's obligation," said Abdullahi An-Na'im, a professor of law at Emory University in Atlanta. According to An-Na'im, Shariah is similar to Jewish Talmudic Law or Catholic Canon Law in that it guides an adherent's moral conduct.

"As a citizen, I am a subject of the United States," An-Na'im said. "I owe allegiance to the United States, to the Constitution of the United States. That is not inconsistent with observing a religious code in terms of my own personal behavior."

While many view this as a testament to the "great American melting pot," others see Islamic law's growing influence as a threat. Shariah's critics point to cases such as the airport in Minneapolis, where some Shariah-adherent taxi drivers made headlines in 2006 for refusing to pick up passengers they suspected of carrying liquor. The drivers' aversion to alcohol stemmed from a verse in the Qur'an that describes "intoxicants and gambling" as "an abomination of Satan's handiwork." Read more ...

Mind-State Solution
Israel

By David Suissa

I’m not sure, but I think I have a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, or at least another way of looking at it. It hit me the other day after I broke bread at Pat’s Restaurant with some people connected to Americans for Peace Now, a leftist Jewish organization that actively promotes the two-state solution.

Now, you should know that whenever I hear the words “peace now,” something inside of me cringes. I have never understood how Israel could make peace now with an enemy that hates her no matter what she does.

Over the years, I’ve asked this question of a number of people across the ideological spectrum: “If Israel dismantled all the settlements in the West Bank tomorrow, would it stop Palestinian hostility and violence toward Israel?”

I never once got a yes.

Why? I think it’s because most people intuitively understand that dismantling settlements is not the same thing as dismantling hatred. The hatred that has been taught for years in Palestinian schools and summer camps, through television shows and billboards and in mosques is not just aimed at Jewish settlers but at all Jews and at all of Israel. This kind of hatred is too deep to be washed away by well-meaning gestures.

So I came to my Peace Now lunch with some apprehension — and a lot of prejudice.

I can’t say I connected ideologically with my lunchmates, but I did end up connecting emotionally. The reason was that I trusted their deep commitment to Israel and their sincerity in their search for peace.

There was something very Jewish about their attitude toward the conflict. First, the idea of hope, of never giving up. Where would the Jews be today if we didn’t have hope?

There was also the idea of taking responsibility for our situation — of not blaming others for our fate. Again, where would the Jewish nation be today without that character trait?

My peace-loving lunch companions are not naive. They know about the spread of Jewish hatred in Palestinian society, and they understand the fear many of us have that a Palestinian state could easily become a terrorist state. But they believe the ideals of peace and a two-state solution are so valuable to Jews and to Israel that it is worth pursuing relentlessly, even if it means paying a significant price.

It’s this idea of paying a price for peace that made a lightbulb go off.

For nearly two decades, Israel has gone to one failed peace meeting after another with this question in mind: How much are we willing to pay for peace? In doing so, they have acted as if the Palestinians actually have something to sell.

Apparently, no one ever stood up during one of those meetings to say to the Israelis: “Wait a minute, you’re not the buyers, you’re the sellers!”

Why sellers? Because everyone knows that when Israel signs an agreement with an Arab country, it is capable of honoring it. On the other hand, it’s no secret that the Palestinians, with or without Hamas, are in no position to deliver peace to Israel.

It follows that if any party should be selling, it is Israel. Yet, incredibly, it is always the reverse: The Palestinians are selling a peace they can’t deliver, while the Israelis are buying a peace that doesn’t exist.

Is it any wonder that all the peace plans keep failing? That groups like Peace Now keep banging their heads against the wall, hoping that more concessions from Israel will somehow bring us closer to that elusive solution?

The problem with pressuring Israel to buy peace through concessions is that it perpetuates the illusion that the Palestinians have something to sell.

What the peace process needs more than anything is for the Palestinians to be able to deliver their end of the bargain. Until that happens, any question of creating a Palestinian state is moot.

My solution? Have the sides switch roles or mind-states.

Israelis should act like “peace owners,” and Palestinians should act like “peace buyers.” With a buyer mentality, Palestinians will be more likely to make their own offers, rather than passively rejecting Israeli offers, which is what they often do.

As buyers, Palestinians would also learn that Israel needs a minimum security deposit: Stop teaching Jew-hatred to your children. Palestinians can’t offer peace while they’re teaching war. Tragically, the anti-incitement clause was the great ignored clause of Oslo — so for more than 15 years, Palestinian society fell back on its habit of demonizing Jews, which contributed to the growth of terrorism and rejectionist forces like Hamas.

Israel is hardly blameless in this picture, and it has made its share of mistakes. But settlements or no settlements, the fact remains that the great majority of Israeli Jews have been more than ready to pay a huge price for peace, including evacuating most of the West bank.

Had the Palestinians been smart, had they taken more responsibility for their situation and developed a culture of co-existence, they would have long ago made Israel an offer it couldn’t refuse. They would have called Israel’s bluff and made the process real.

Instead, we’ve all been treated to the continuing and sorry spectacle of global diplomats parachuting into Jerusalem to coax adversaries into yet another round of the “let’s play peace process” game.

Leading the latest charge is our new can-do president, who believes that a solution is possible if only the U.S. becomes more “engaged.” He will soon learn that no amount of American engagement or Israeli concessions can undo the reality that for the foreseeable future, the Palestinians are utterly incapable of delivering peace to Israel.

All this, of course, is very sobering for those of us who fear for the future of Israel as a Jewish democratic state. Going forward, the one thing we can be sure of is that groups like Peace Now will continue to pressure Israel to make concessions, and people like me will lament that the whole process is upside down.

All About Web Hosting student income

How to Avoid a Web hosting Scam?
Web hosting has become a lucrative business. No wonder many mendacious web hosting companies have ventured into it. These companies always look for unsure clients to strike deals to make money the wrong way.
Most of the mendacious web hosting service providers offer their hosting plans at unrealistically low prices. You sign an agreement and pay the required amount. The plan requires a full year payment in advance, but the host doesn’t give the log-in account on one pretext or the other. And suddenly you realize that you have made a big mistake.

You should verify whether or not the claims made by your hosting company are valid. Here are a few tips for the same.

• Ensure if your host use Verisign or has a BBB seal visible on their personal site. If you don’t see an assurance about their business practices, you should not trust it.

• Compare your hosting plans with some of the other reputed hosting service providers. If you find that the price that you are offered is too good, and at the same time, you are offered tremendous disk space, excellent connection, and download speed along with advanced control panel features, move on to look for another host.

• It is advisable that you verify the credentials of your web hosting service provider. Check the host’s reputation in the market, and proceed further if the claims are genuine.

• Do proper research to assess what other clients say about that host. Check why they are satisfied or unsatisfied.

If you find that a couple of points mentioned here do not go in favor of a web hosting service provider, it does not necessarily mean that it is a fraud. These are only pointers to caution you that you need to study well, and do your homework well before signing any contract.

The Truth about Unlimited Bandwidth Offers
While looking for a Web hosting service provider, you may find that certain companies claim to offer unlimited bandwidth or data transfer. However, the ground realities are entirely different. Do not rush to such companies; rather, take time to verify their claims. Do some research and give it a deep thought, because unlimited bandwidth means you will be paying a hefty amount to the host. So, you need to be absolutely sure if it is worth the deal.

Bandwidth is the most important and also the most expensive component for a web hosting company. If the company claims that it offers unlimited bandwidth, more often than not, it may not true.

Theme: The Three Domain Hypothesis

This is a series of postings that describe the Three Domain Hypothesis. The Three Domain Hypothesis is the idea that life is divided into three domains—bacteria, archaebacteria, and eukaryotes—and that the archaebacteria and eukaryotes share a common ancestor. An example of this tree of life is shown on the Dept. of Energy (USA) Joint Genome Initiative website [JGI Microbial Genomes] (left).

The hypothesis was promoted by Carl Woese in the 1980's but the pure form has now been abandoned and replaced with a “net of life” concept of early evolution as shown in the figure below. This figure is taken from Ford Doolittle's Scientific American article "Uprooting the Tree of Life" (February 2010). © Scientific Pakistan

IS BRAD LANDER HOMOPHOBIC

Stonewall Members and Friends:

Last Friday, Brad Lander, one of Bob Zuckerman's opponents in the 39th City Council District race, placed an ad in a Yiddish newspaper in Boro Park that refers to LGBT people as "abominations" and "immoral." As the Courier-Life Publication states, "the [ad] was aimed directly at Orthodox readers, who equate 'abominations' with homosexuals." The ad also states that "it would be a desecration of the name of God to support the other candidates...." City Hall News, September 2009.

Homophobia is never acceptable. Not by someone who has been calling himself a progressive. Not by saying one thing in one community and saying something else elsewhere when eyes are turned. Not now. Never.

It's not the first time Brad Lander has courted homophobes. He embraced the support of Assembly Member Dov Hikind, who has compared same-sex marriage to incest and said that LGBT people killed during the Holocaust should not be recognized in Brooklyn's Holocaust Memorial Park.

Divisive tactics like this--straight out of Karl Rove's playbook--turn people off from politics altogether.

Don't let these tactics work for Brad Lander.

There are just 11 days left for all of us to stand up against this
insidious brand of homophobia and deception, stand up for progressive
values, and stand up for a genuine progressive like Bob Zuckerman to
represent ALL of us.

Immigration Information

Students who are admitted to the United States for study in approved universities and colleges must follow certain rules and regulations in order to maintain legal immigration status. International Programs at NMU can answer your questions about student status in the U.S. and clarify United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations.

United States Immigration law is subject to frequent change; information should always be verified by your international student adviser. Your friends and family members are just that: they should not be considered a reliable source of information regarding your particular student status.

Most Northern Michigan University international students enter the United States with in F-1 or J-1 student status. College Travel & Tourism

One of the most exciting times in a college student's life is spring break, a week-long vacation when many students gather and party at a popular vacation destination. There are many options for students who want to escape their dorm for awhile to enjoy life before returning to prepare for final exams.

Devereux Glenholme offers a wide range of supportive services to assist students with individual and family goals. The Glenholme staff work collectively as an interdisciplinary team to directly affect and make changes with the student and their family. The four ingredients necessary to achieve therapeutic treatment are environmental design, planning, consistency and predictability. Students excel in the program when this occurs. Students participate in a full academic school day, instructional based activities in the evening, weekly individual therapy, and family therapy. Students may participate in extra curricular activities such as the athletic sports programs, student leadership council, drama, chorus, fine arts, technology, music, campus radio station, community service and the equestrian program. In addition to the interscholastic sports offered, the students also participate in daily recreational campus sports and activities as a part of their social and cooperative group interaction. Intramural games such as kick ball, capture the flag, relay races, Frisbee toss, flag football, floor hockey, softball, soccer, tennis, and basketball all focus on teamwork, respect, responsibility, and fairness. These activities are planned and implemented by the residential instructors and are in keeping with the behavioral and socialization goals the students are working on.

The residential program is a teaching model outside of the traditional classroom environment. Planned activity based instruction is a key factor to the success of Glenholme's residential treatment. Lesson plans integrate student treatment objectives, socialization skills and character values. Character education is a natural fiber woven into every program and teaching opportunity. Glenholme embraces core values that explain and demonstrate Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Community Service, Kindness and Fairness. Teaching students to cooperate and learn new skills builds confidence, pride and self-esteem. The residential staff provide students with daily instruction on how to care for the home, personal belongings, and how to live cooperatively with other students.

The weekends provide additional opportunities for students to engage in planned on-campus and off-campus events to improve upon independent socialization skills. Glenholme offers a seasonal range of activities for younger and older students designed to occur within the cottage groups and in special activity groups. Glenholme’s student council works collaboratively with the weekend planning staff to explore activity options and arrange regular events from Friday to Sunday evenings. Students are eligible to attend the events based on their weekly behavior and identified individual needs. Examples of planned activities are Friday night movies, Saturday afternoon shopping trips, restaurant dining in the evening, Sunday Brunch, and Sunday ice skating parties. Examples of planned cottage activities include intramural sports, board games, baking, swimming, arts & crafts, hiking, and snowshoeing.

The Glenholme School has established excellent business relationships with area vendors and shopkeepers to aide in providing the best possible environment and services for the students to be responsible consumers. Additional recreational trips are being researched such as ski trips and bus tours to historical sites. In the case of larger trips, there may be occasion for parent(s) to supplement additional funding to offset the price of the event.

The Glenholme Motivational Management Approach utilizes a positive peer management technique known as The Peer Partner Program. The program is designed to identify each student's behavioral characteristics and allows students to use their natural leadership skills to encourage and motivate students to work together as a team. The residential staff provides students with leadership training to become role models for their peers. In addition, the staff members instruct and coach students to develop teamwork, problem solving and organizational skills. Together, they develop behavioral strategies to improve peer and adult relationships.

Google Image search adds a new Saf
Google Image search has long come under controversy for the amount of pornography that is available to find within its database. In order to help protect users Google introduced the “safe search” filter system which allows users to filter the results according to adult content. The filter has three settings, off, moderate and strict. The filter used to be accessed via a second page and an approval and confirmation window but now Google have simplified this process and have included a quick access safe search drop down option box which appears directly below the Image search box at the top of the page.

Student information system

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

A student information system (SIS) is a software application for educational establishments to manage student data. Student information systems provide capabilities for entering student test and other assessment scores through an electronic grade book, building student schedules, tracking student attendance, and managing many other student-related data needs in a school, college or university. Also known as student information management system (SIMS, SIM), student records system (SRS), student management system (SMS) or school management system (SMS) .

These systems vary in size, scope and capability, from packages that are implemented in relatively small organizations to cover student records alone, to enterprise-wide solutions that aim to cover most aspects of running large multi-campus organizations with significant local responsibility. Many systems can be scaled to different levels of activity, and can be configured by their home institutions to meet local needs.

Until recently, the common functions of a student records system are to support the maintenance of personal and study information relating to:

  • Handling inquiries from prospective students;
  • Handling the admissions process;
  • Enrolling new students and storing teaching option choices;
  • Automatically creating class & teacher schedules
  • Handling records of examinations, assessments, marks and grades and academic progression;
  • Maintaining records of absences and attendance;
  • Recording communications with students
  • Maintaining discipline records
  • Providing statistical reports
  • Maintenance boarding house details
  • Communicating student details to parents through a parent portal

In larger enterprise solutions that have student data at their core, further functions include financial aid management and more may be customized by the developer. Where national or government systems exist for student finance or statistical return purposes, student records system often provide functionality that caters for this, by way of modules or core elements that handle the production of required files, or deal with the formatted transfer of information. examples are the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) process in the United States, the United Kingdom's Student Loans Company processes (SSAR, SSAC and ATFEE file processing), the UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) in the United Kingdom, or the HESA and HESES student statistical returns in the United Kingdom.

In the past, universities and large school districts in particular have created their own bespoke student record systems. One such example is the ROSI system at University of Toronto. With growing complexity in the business of educational establishments, most organizations now choose to buy customizable software, and increasing numbers are buying software as a service. Most student information systems in use today are server-based, with the application residing on a central computer server, and being accessed by client applications at various places within and even outside the school. But student information systems have been moving to the web since the late 1990s and that trend is accelerating as institutions replace older systems.

In recent years, several forces have been driving an evolution of student information systems and, as a result, leading many institutions to replace theirs. Those forces are:

  • Demand for 24x7 web-based access to information by students, instructors, and (in primary and secondary education, or K-12) parents
  • Increasing demands in the amount and frequency of data reporting for accountability and other purposes (so-called "vertical reporting" up to state, provincial, and national agencies)
  • Importance of integrating student information systems with other tools, especially relating to instruction (IMS systems like SchoolNet and SchoolCity in the US), courses (CMS systems like Blackboard, Angel, Sakai, Moodle), and learning (LMS systems and on-line course ware like APEX).

Most student information systems and school administration software that have been around for a while have an outdated code base and have intermixed presentation, business logic, and data access layers to such an extent that modifying them to keep up with these demands has proven expensive or impossible. As a result, some systems with widespread use, like SASI for K-12 in the United States, will no longer be supported. Institutions using such legacy systems will be forced to switch at some point, and will likely choose from a new generation of student information systems built on a modern code base; with online accessibility; with modern databases; with relatively clean separation between presentation, business logic, and data access layers; with solid data architectures, and with a well-defined set of business processes so that their integration with other applications can be better understood and executed.

Modern use also implies that smaller K-12 schools can benefit from the reducing cost of technology; this has made it possible for even these organizations to implement such school software that not only encompass the management of student information but also provide the means for parents or guardians to connect with the teaching staff through parent portals[1]

Student Information Systems (SIS)

Free / Open Source SIS - Student Information Software - for managing student data. A student information system may provide capabilities for entering student test and other assessment scores, building student schedules, tracking student attendance, and managing many other student-related data needs.
ClaSS is the ClaSS Student System.
A complete student tracking, reporting and information management system. ClaSS extends the reach of traditional systems by using the latest in web-application methodologies to include the whole school community. ClaSS aims to be the ubiquitous classroom information assistant for schools.

iTALC is a use- and powerful didactical tool for teachers. It lets you view and control other computers in your network in several ways. It supports Linux and Windows 2000/XP (Vista support will come) and it even can be used transparently in mixed environments!

In contrast to widely used commercial equivalent software, iTALC is free! This means you do not have to pay for expensive licenses or things like that. Furthermore the source-code is freely available and you're free in changing the software to fit your needs as long as you respect the terms of iTALC's license (GPL). Freedom in two ways!

Online Grades is the leading free-software project that allows K-12+ student grades attendance information to be posted onto a dynamic web site. Online Grades is not a web-based gradebook. Instead, it accepts grade export information from several popular gradebook software programs such as Easy Grade Pro, Gradekeeper, Misty City's Grade Machine, and PGGP and places the grade information online securely.

Student, Teachers, Parents, and Administrators each get their own personal login into Online Grades, which allows them to see all of the grades in all of their classes. If parents have more than one student at a school or district, they only need one parent login to see the grades of all of their students.

Open Admin for Schools is a School Administration Program. It is a freely available, open source software package and is licensed under the GNU General Public License.

It is entirely web based and can run from a centrally located division wide server or a single computer in a school. It is designed to support an entire division on one or more central computers but can also work just fine for a single school. Currently several school divisions use this approach and have 15+ schools on a single central server. This is because it is designed to be lightweight both in server resource requirements and in communication bandwidth.

It currently has the following features:

1. Demographics
2. Attendance
3. Discipline
4. Report Card System
5. Online Gradebook
6. A Transcript System to print student transcripts
7. A Fees System (along with Lunch program)
8. Parent/Student Viewing scripts
9. IEP (Special Needs) Site
10. Export/Import Modules
11. Saskatchewan SDS support for direct XML transfers of student demographic, subject and enrollment marks to provincial authorities.
12. An Online Daybook to allow teachers to plan and view their lessons/days.
13. Upcoming: A Single site SSL installation to allow a school to run OA securely on a single website.

openSIS is a free student information system for public and non-public schools. openSIS is a web-based, open source, student management product with features that include student demographic info, scheduling, grade book, attendance, report cards, eligibility, transcripts, and more.

The vision that drives schooltool planning and development.
Our ideals and inspiration.

Our vision is for a common information systems platform for school administration from California to Calcutta, via Cape Town! We hope to provide a single tool that will be readily adapted to the specific regulatory requirements and practices of different countries and regions, but that retains enough common functionality to make a shared development effort worthwhile. The SchoolTool will be freely available under an Open Source licence, and commercial editions with additional functionality might also be available if 3rd party developers wish to build commercial products on top of the universal platform.

SchoolTool will draw members of the education community: staff, students, parents, alumni and administrators into a tight-knit community with instant access to relevant information. SchoolTool will not depend on a technology-intensive environment, but in those schools with broad and deep access to technology in the form of computers, laptops, PDA's, cellphones and wireless pagers, SchoolTool will leverage those forms of communication and devices to deliver the right information to the right person at the right time.
What IS Included?

We hope that SchoolTool will eventually take care of all aspects of school administration. We will address basic school operational functions such as student registration, attendance records, student performance measurement, timetable creation and calendaring, society/club/team membership management, and report writing. In later versions we hope to expand SchoolTool to address school financial management, specialised modules for library and cafeteria management, communication between local authorities and schools as well as inter-school information sharing. We will also make it possible to link SchoolTool to your school web portal. Once we have a core useable application we will drive development based on feedback from the school user community.
What ISN'T Included?

SchoolTool is not teaching software. You will not use SchoolTool to teach math or chemistry. SchoolTool is not a framework for teaching content, it is a framework for school administration. This is a deliberate decision: there are literally hundreds of research and commercial efforts to create platforms for computer-based training. We don't want to take on that challenge. In the far-distant future we may expand SchoolTool to be a 'host environment' for educational content as well, but for the moment we leave that challenge to the pedagogical experts.
